We (the Crawfords, Burts and Sister Kelly) took a drive to Anzio, Italy to visit the Anzio Beach Landings Museum and the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery and Memorial. In the center of the photo is the president of the organization "to commemorate the soldiers of all nationalities who took part in the landings and ensuing battles".

In the center of the photo is the president of the organization "to commemorate the soldiers of all nationalities who took part in the landings and ensuing battles".
Anzio took a battering during the war but much of the town has been rebuilt.

The bark on these "camouflage trees" are beautiful (I made that name up, does anyone know the real name of these trees?)

Many exhibits in the museum come from the bed of the sea in Anzio where there are still the remains of aircraft and landing craft. Many of these wrecks still have the crew on board.
Sicily-Rome American Cemetery and Memorial.
'Sicily - Rome' American Cemetery & Memorial spans 77 acres and contains American casualties from the Anzio, Sicily and Salerno campaigns. There are 7,861 individual burials, with the names of 3,095 'missing' remembered on the walls of the memorial. 
"Here rests in honored glory a COMRADE IN ARMS known but to God."
