Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast

Saturday - May 1, 2010 We headed south with the Sommerfeldts to the beautiful coastal city of Sorrento and a drive along the Amalfi Coast.

Among the many shops we saw this beautiful oil painting of Sorrento (with Vesuvius in the background).

Sorrento it known for it's inlaid wood art. This church displayed all the stations of the cross in beautiful inlaid wood.

Flip-flops anyone?

Sorrento is also famous for its inlaid wood music boxes (the reason we made the trip). This is Gargiulo Salvatore. He and his father own this shop. They love the missionaries.
After a gelato at Davide we were on the road again.

We stopped to buy a granita di limone (lemon shave ice) from the roadside vendor. He is holding a lemon.

Another stop at a road side vendor to take photos. This one had many yapping chihuahuas, letting us know we were not welcome! You can spot two on the ledge.

Back in the car and we're off again.

We spotted this Ceramic Factory on the side of the road.

When I walked into the shop, the woman who works there greeted me and said, "You're a sister." She was baptized many years ago but church is two hours away for her now. I encouraged her to bring church to her by having the Liahona sent to her home.

Elder Sommerfeldt's dream was to have dinner over looking the Mediterranian Sea.

We found the perfect location.

Pinch me so I know I'm not dreaming! What a beautiful day.
