As you can see, this is a favorite place for many. 
On our walk from the Spanish Steps to Piazza Venezia we saw the Disney Store.
The National Museum of Palazzo Venezia
The tomb of the unknown soldier is below the center Equestrian statue in the very center.
Inside the museum we found this bronze sculpture - a tribute to Giuseppe (Joseph) Garibaldi who is as important to Italian history as George Washington is to the United States.
The Lord helps righteous men even at times when they are unaware. Garibaldi, is unaware that there is an angel at his side guiding his horse through the battle.

We walked up to the Palatine Hill
“Many affluent Romans of the Republican period (510 BC–44 BC) had their residences there.
Recent excavations show that people have lived here since approximately 1000 BC.
Among the Palatine Hills ~ wild poppiesand aromatic clover.
We even found a garden maze.
The Arch of Constantine - he is the reason Christianity became legal in Rome.
The Roman Coliseum
The Roman Coliseum is an elliptical amphitheatre in the center of the city of Rome. It is considered one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and Roman engineering. Its construction started between 70 and 72 AD
and was completed in 80 AD under Titus.
Capable of seating 50,000 spectators, the Colosseum was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles. Other public spectacles were held there, such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology.

ReplyDeletelove all the photos you are posting..they are fabulous...I got to see the Colosseum and was shocked at how small it was...in photos it seemed so much bigger..love all the flowers that are in bloom there..bet it smelled wonderful..;)

Sounds like a fun P-day! Those azaleas are gorgeous! My white ones are blooming, too. It's nice to see you in summer clothes. You both look very happy!
ReplyDeleteThe Spanish Steps look much more beautiful with all those azaleas blooming. When we were there in June, there weren't any flowers in bloom and the steps were very plain looking.
